This awesome park is a firm favourite! Situated on the corner of Cramer Street and Jessie Street in Preston, it’s right next door to the Melbourne Polytechnic Campus. There’s plenty of car parks around, although during study hours they get full pretty quick. I’ve always managed to find one close by though. There is fencing around the park, however it’s not really designed to keep the kids in, they’re more of a barrier with gaps to walk through. The play equipment is quite far away from the road though so you don’t need to worry.
The park itself is in such a gorgeous setting with lots of lush green grass and tall palm trees. The structures are made out of plastic and metal with lots of activities to keep the kids entertained. The section for the younger kids has a slide, climbing net/tower, green tunnel, climbing wall, steps, balancing stools, monkey bars, large threaded beads and naughts and crosses. Tan bark provides a soft landing for any falls.
Next to this there’s a blue spinning pod, a spring see saw, swings and a red train. My kids could have played for hours in that train!
The older children’s play structure includes a double slide, climbing tower, rock climbing walls, nets and balancing pods.
It’s a great spot for a picnic or BBQ. There are picnic tables scattered around the park as well as a gas BBQ, water tap, bin and picnic table under a shaded pavillion. I didn’t see any toilets close by however I have overheard people talking about some near the cricket oval to the left. I have yet to look for these.
Remember to bring a picnic and a rug, you’ll want to stay here for a while!
