This great little park has been a favourite with my little ones for years. It’s situated off Gilbert Road on the corner of Regent Street, right next door to J.S. Grey Kindergarten and the Maternal Health Centre. It’s particularly great for the younger kids as the main equipment is fenced off and the structures are not too high.
There’s a couple of slides, climbing and sliding poles, a small tunnel and the ubiquitous naughts and crosses. Across the tan bark there is a small see saw, two small rocking animals and two swings (1 baby seat). There’s also a great shaded sail over the sandpit and picnic bench. Seating is in the form of wooden benches along the garden beds and another single park bench near the main structure.
Outside the fenced area is a nest swing and small semi circle basketball court and ring. The surrounding park comprises of inviting lush green grass, a gas BBQ, drinking fountain and public toilets. On a sunny day you’ll spot many mother’s groups lounging about with their babies on blankets underneath the huge trees. It’s a little oasis on the corner of the two streets and surprisingly I don’t notice the traffic when I’m at the park.
Of course one of the best things about this playground is that there are not one but two great cafes across the road! There’s Jackson Dodds and Cheshire, where you can pick up a take away coffee and muffin and then hit the park! Or you could dine in at the child friendly Jackson Dodds, where they have a box of toys to keep the little ones entertained! I’ll post more about them soon!
