Malahang Reserve in Heidelberg West is a fantastic park that has something for all ages. I’ve driven past it so many times and wanted to check it out… I’m glad we finally did! There’s is so much to do you could easily spend a few hours here.
Walk along the wooden pier to board the huge S.S. Malahang! It’s an awesome paddle steamer styled structure with a boarding ramp, slides, climbing entry points, lookout towers, tunnels and various interactive elements. My kids loved the very front of the boat which had seats, rotating pedals and a steering wheel. Who wouldn’t love to steer a boat! A smaller similarly themed boat sits nearby, for the younger kids, which was pretty cute too.
There’s lots of equipment spread out over the tan bark, ranging from the usual swings, stand on spinners, spinning cups, tyre swings, two toddler slides, a large nest swing, a see saw, double rope pyramid and springers.
For the older kids there’s a cool flying fox/zip line, a basketball court, a new skate park and a BMX dirt-track with small jumps. Seriously awesome… don’t forget to bring your skateboard, bikes and scooters!
The park is huge so there’s plenty of space for the kids to run around and to set up a picnic blanket. If you arrive early enough you could also score one of the tables with BBQ’s under the large sheltered area. Toilets and drinking fountains ensure you can be pretty comfortable for a few hours. We can’t wait to go back!
