Possum Hollow is a fun little playground in Heidelberg. It’s situated among the parklands where walking trails and the Yarra River wind through. The surrounding environment is beautifully integrated into the play area with lots of tall trees, grass and native plants.
The playground is spread over a large space with most activities suitable for younger kids. There’s the usual slides and swings, a climbing wall with ropes for kids to pull themselves up with, a wooden bridge, a roundabout and a rock wall. In the middle there is a spider web rope structure which is low to the ground – so there’s no need to worry about falls!
Further along is a cool open space underneath huge gum trees with cement tiles arranged into small paths. My kids loved jumping on them, counting and reciting the shapes and colours. Isn’t it amazing how sometimes the simplest things can keep kids attention for the longest?! There’s also a couple of open framed cubby houses nearby… perfect for imaginary forts and castles. Towards the back, behind the native shrubs, you’ll find a cool double flying fox and a basketball court which would suit older kids.
The whole playground is fenced in and it would be a lovely spot to have a party as you don’t have to worry about kids running outside. There’s picnic tables, BBQ facilities, drinking taps and public toilets. If the kids get tired of the playground you could also check out the nature trail just outside. It’s an entertaining play area set within a beautiful natural bush environment.
