Wow Keeper Kids at the Melbourne Zoo is so much fun!! If you’re looking for a fun indoor activity during winter then look no further! The indoor playspace is located directly in front of the entrance (inside the zoo), and is a purpose built space where kids can immerse themselves in role-play and exploration. My two kids absolutely loved it and didn’t want to leave!

The circular space features a large wooden tree with seating around it’s trunk… perfect for weary parents. Set up around the space are various play areas which allow kids to experience life in a zoo. There’s the ‘Works’ area, where kids can try their hand at plumbing, carpentry and zoo design. A ‘Veterinary’ area where kids can look after sick animals. A ‘Research Station’ where kids can dress up as researchers and learn how conservation projects are planned and carried out. Plus a ‘Horticulture’ section which offers garden-focused fun, including potting up plants. There is a large selection of great dress-ups and props to enhance the experience, including binoculars, stethoscopes, and a variety of plush toy animals. So much fun!

The space also has a viewing window into a research/preparation/vet area and kids can see real keepers at work. Plus you can also see directly into the Squirrel Monkey exhibit – away from the crowds. There’s so much to see and do that you might not even make it to the real animals outside! One visit definitley won’t be enough! It’s great if you have a membership, you can just come and go as many times as you like and not feel guilty about not seeing any animals. Don’t forget that kids are free every weekend, Victorian Government school holidays and public holidays!
