Turner Reserve, Thornbury

This fabulous little playground is off Smith Street in Thornbury. By far the most popular feature is the large round sandpit, which has a huge variety of toys that have been left there (presumably by other parents) for visitors to play with. What a nice surprise! My kids absolutely loved playing with the diggers, trucks, shovels, buckets and various containers. There’s plenty of toys and lots of space for kids to get stuck in and sandy!

The main play structure is quite rustic and looks like it’s made out of thick tree branches… very cool! There’s two slides, climbing points, a tunnel, balance bridge and a climbing wall. To the side there’s a smaller little cubby house and some tree stumps for balancing and jumping.

Scattered around the tan bark you’ll also find the standard swings (1 baby) and a large nest swing, plus a small roundabout, a dual rocker and a climbing structure made out of three tree stumps. A footpath running through the park is dotted with a white line and is a perfect road for the little ones on their trikes or balance bikes.

There’s plenty of grass to set up a picnic rug and depending on the time of day the large trees provide some shade. A gas BBQ, picnic tables and a water fountain ensure you can spend a few hours at this park. Unfortunately I didn’t see any public toilets.

We’ll definitely be returning here, especially for the sandpit!
